Heron Preston AW18 - PMFW
Unlike many of the designers showing at Paris Fashion Week, new kid on the block Heron Preston doesn’t have a long-running history to back him up. Preston has been involved in the industry for a while, however with it being only the third time he’s shown at fashion week, the collection and presentation needed to be head-turners.
Fortunately, that’s exactly what both were. The presentation was yet to start and we’d already spotted the notorious Bella Hadid on her way into the building, sporting never before seen garments by the man himself. Bella was just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the attendees. Virgil Abloh, Ian Connor, Bloody Osiris, Jerry Lorenzo and Marcelo Burlon were all present also, and just as eager to see what the fresh young designer had been cooking up as we were.
The collection itself is titled “Public Figure”, and draws inspiration from the influencer culture that we’re all too used to these days, the idea of self-confessed celebrities and entitlement. Both men’s and women’s pieces were showcased simultaneously. The collection featured a plethora of graphic T-shirts, as you would expect from Heron, as well as everything from pyjama bottom pants to puffer jackets. Collaborations also accounted for a large part of the presentation, with Heron debuting a capsule with legendary workwear brand Carhartt, as well as another with NASA. Overall, the collection is extremely wearable in our opinion, and ranges from pieces that are easily incorporated into everyday fits, to stand-out flex pieces.
Heron Preston still has a great journey to complete to stand next to the greats of fashion, although if this presentation was anything to go by, he’s well on his way. Little over two years ago he was working as an art director for Kanye West, spending countless nights awake, tirelessly vacuum-packing invites for the star’s Yeezy Season shows. From that to showing at Paris Fashion Week is what we’d call serious movements. It’s all up from here, we have great faith in the fact that Preston and his brand can stay relevant and keep producing excellent clothes.
